Information about the Bochum University of Applied Sciences for our GJU-Students
Welcome to the Bochum University of Applied Sciences!
This Site gives information about Bochum University of Applied Sciences, our courses of study in generally and in mechatronics engineering education in particular in Bochum and about Bochum City itself, to Members and Students of the GJU.
The Bochum University of Applied Sciences, founded in 1972, is a modern university of applied sciences, specialising in technology and economics. Its long tradition of offering fast-track, student-centred vocational degree courses which enjoy close links to industrial and other organisations in the region of the central Ruhrgebiet (ruhr-area) gives the University the edge.
The Bochum University, recruiting teachers directly from industry, has built and maintains a close partnership with the worlds of business and engineering.
This relationship has resulted in research partnerships, joint development projects and opportunities for students. The three centers of competences,
- Construction
- Engineering
- Economics
offer 25 bachelor- and master-courses. The courses of study are:
- architecture, civil engineering, surveying, geoinformatics,
- electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechatronics engineering, mechanical engineering and
- business administration
Some 120 professors with business and industrial experience teach and research at Bochum. With 4,400 students, the University is both dynamic and comfortably sized.
The courses at FH Bochum are styled on the German university of applied sciences approach, which combines academic knowledge with technical know-how and industrial experience.
The University conducts applied research in close operation with regional business enterprises. Students working on their dissertations are often involved in concrete projects by companies seeking specific solutions.
The partner companies (for example Adam Opel AG, Siemens AG) often act as the inspiration for applied research and development work at the University, raising questions and problems which act as the focus for student dissertation work.
The Mechatronics course offers a fast track into the world of work for our students as well as revitalising the traditional field of engineering studies.
The Mechatronics course trains engineers in three skills areas: mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and information technology. The course has been developed in conjunction with our partner companies in industry, guaranteeing its closeness to current business practice.
In many areas of business, increasing international co-operation has led to new demands on employees. The University is committed to preparing its graduates to cope with increasing globalisation as well as being open to the ideas and experiences of the international community in teaching, research and administration. Student exchanges with the partner institutions of the Bochum Universitiy are an essential aspect of a graduate's international education.
We are a member of NIBS, the "Network of International Business Schools".
Mechatronics at the Bochum University of Applied Sciences
To study mechatronics at Bochum has a long tradition. As first german university, we offer courses of study in mechatronics engineering since 1993.
Courses of study:
- Mechatronics (Bachelor of Engineering, 6 terms)
- Mechatronics (Master of Engineering, 4 terms, full time study or part time study)
- Cooperative Engineer Education KIA Mechatronics (Bachelor of Engineering), in cooperation with companies, 2 years simultaneously apprenticeship and part time study, afterwards full time study
Education in mechatronics engineering is run by professors of the department of electrical engineering & computer sciences and the department of mechatronics & mechanical engineering, organised by Members of the Mechatronics Centre North-Rhine Westphalia.
