The Institute of Robotics and Mechatronics is part of Phoenix Contact EduNet

Humanoid robots - Opportunities and Challenges

With the contribution "information model for intention based robot-human interaction" our institute takes part at the VDI conference future humanoid robots in 2016 of 13-14th December. Topics of the presentation are:

  • Intention recognition of movement and overall behavior of the human and the robot,
  • Modeling of an information model for the representation of intentions,
  • Deriving a safe human-robot interaction from the information model,
  • Assistance systems for professional and private life
  • Assistance systems for care

What sounds like science fiction to many, could soon be a reality. Human-like robots that operate in environments that are created for man and humans tools. Thus, the uses for robots would expand enormously. In addition, many experts promise an improved interaction between humans and robots.

7th International Conference on Applied Human Factors and Ergonomics 2016


Our institute takes part in the 7th AHFE Conference  2016 in Orlando, Florida. The topic of the presentation is "Information model for intention based robot human interaction".

The objective of the conferenceis to provide an international forum for the dissemination and exchange of scientific information on theoretical, generic and applied areas of human factors and ergonomics. This will be accomplished through the following six modes of communication: keynote presentation, parallel sessions, demonstration and poster sessions, tutorials, exhibitions and meetings of special interest groups. The five-day conference will start with tutorials. Tutorials will be offered at introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels covering the entire spectrum of the conference.

Secure & reliable in the digital world

... is the title of the 17th branch meeting of measurement and automation technology. Also this year, the institution had a talk about the session Discrete Manufacturing - Robot based production and quality assurance. The talk was done by our lab manager Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Sebastian Schmitz, M.Sc. His talk was about conceptual design of a servo-controlled robot Manipulator for the handling and installation of tires and rims "Lot size 1".

Contents of the presentation are:

• Variable adaptation to any diameter

• Controlled power structure, use of the robot drive

• Evaluation of the servo parameters for torque monitoring

• Vertical integration into an existing process chain

• Mounting the lower bead

ASME 2015 International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition

We presented the topic "Optimizing the Compressed Air Consumption of Milling Machines" at the ASME IMECE (November 13th-19th 2015) in Houston, Texas.

ASME's International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (IMECE) is the largest interdisciplinary mechanical engineering conference in the world. IMECE plays a significant role in stimulating innovation from basic discovery to translational application. It fosters new collaborations that engage stakeholders and partners not only from academia, but also from national laboratories, industries, research settings, and funding bodies. Among the 4,000 attendees from 75+ countries are mechanical engineers in advanced manufacturing, aerospace, advanced energy, fluids engineering, heat transfer, design engineering, materials and energy recovery, applied mechanics, power, rail transportation, nanotechnology, bioengineering, internal combustion engines, environmental engineering, and more.

The 16th International Conference on Research and Education in Mechatronics REM2015

Experts from many different countries will come together to exchange their knowledge and experience with colleagues. This event will be the basis for new networks and cooperations in R&D and in educating Mechatronic Engineers. We hope to give you an opportunity for further cooperations of students, professors and persons from industry. 

The quality of the programme will be supervised by an outstanding Icon externer Link IPC (international programme committee); it includes keynote presentations by renowned researchers from universities and from industry.

With Industry 4.0 at the Automation 2015, Baden Baden, Germany

DISCRETE MANUFACTURING – ROBOT Based Production Technology

On Thursday 11th of June our laboratory manager  Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Sebastian Schmitz, M.Sc. presented a talk with the topic "vision-based robotic tire mounting (RRM) of tires and wheels for lot size"

Contents of the presentation were:

• Path optimization by evaluating the servo parameter

• Continuous process monitoring through a vision system

• Minimization of the power flow in the assembly

• Workspace cross robot / robot interaction

• Process optimization through modular design

• Self-learning system by evaluating the process parameters

• Early detection of process faults by torque monitoring
