Funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG)\, the NRW Doctoral College (PK NRW) and Bochum Univer sity of Applied Sciences and Justus Liebig University Giessen it refle cts the recognised scientific significance of community research appro aches to health equity.\n\nThe conference brings together internationa lly leading academics\, community researchers and activists from Peru\ , Brazil\, Canada and Europe to discuss the role of community research in promoting health equity and addressing health crises. It offers st udents and early-career researchers a rare opportunity for direct exch ange with internationally recognised scholars and community practition ers from four continents – an experience that goes well beyond what academic coursework alone can provide.\n\nBuilding on over ten years o f international collaboration and community research to combat health inequalities – approaches that are increasingly recognised in intern ational health research as essential complements to biomedical and epi demiological framework –\, the conference highlights the transformat ive potential of community-oriented\, participatory approaches to mana ging health crises\, which have long been established in many regions of the Global South and in Canada. Many of the key participants\, incl uding A. E. Birn\, A. Kapilashrami and D. Ventura\, all leading critic al public health scholars\, have been centrally involved in this field .\n\nIn dialogue with researchers\, activists and community researcher s from the Global South\, we will explore South-North and South-South exchanges on community research\, community health and health equity ( Birn\, A.E. 2025a\, Birn\, A.E. 2025b\, Ventura et al. 2024\, Falge\, C./Betscher\, S.: 2024) and address key gaps in healthcare provision ( level of care\, paradigmatic approaches\, accessibility\, sensitivity to diversity/community participation\, etc.) in European countries. Gu ided by a non-extractivist and power-critical approach\, international case studies will focus on community mobilisation\, decentralised pol icy-making and community-based healthcare.\n\nParticular highlights wi ll be the dialogic keynote ‘Dialogue across disciplines and continen ts for health equity’ by researchers and activists Prof. Deisy Ventu ra (University of São Paulo\, Brazil) and \;Prof. Anne-Emanuelle Birn (University of Toronto\, Canada)\, moderated by Prof. Dr. Michael Knipper (Justus Liebig University Giessen) and a key note by Anuj Kap ilashrami\, which will take place at \;KoFabrik Bochum\, a communi ty space for social innovation\, activism and collaborative work.
