Admission requirements
University entrance qualification
To study at Bochum University of Applied Sciences, you need a school or university degree that is recognized in Germany as a university entrance qualification (HZB). There are different types of HZB depending on your previous education:
You can apply right away.
Before applying, you must attend a preparatory college (Studienkolleg) and pass assessment test. You will then automatically receive a subject-specific direct HZB.
You can study any subject at a German university—regardless of the field.
You may only choose certain subjects, depending on what you have already studied in your home country or the subjects in which you have taken exams.
In Germany, the following subject areas are distinguished:
- G/S: Humanities and languages
- W: Social sciences and economics
- T: Technology and natural sciences
- M: Medicine and biology
Where can you have your HZB checked?
- anabin – Information on foreign educational qualifications
- uni-assist – Here you will find country-specific information
- DAAD-Zulassungsdatenbank – There you can check online whether your degree is recognized
(The pages are available in German and English)
You can find more information about the assessment test on the websites of the preparatory colleges (Studienkollegs).
Please also note the current admission regulation.
Admission test TestAs
Some foreign certificates are not sufficient to immediately begin a bachelor's degree program in Germany. Instead of the preparatory college (Studienkolleg), you can also take the TestAS. This is a special test for foreign applicants. If you achieve a good result in the TestAS, you can obtain a so-called subject-specific university entrance qualification. This then allows you to start a bachelor's degree in a suitable subject at Bochum University of Applied Sciences.
If you already have a general university entrance qualification or a subject-specific university entrance qualification, you do not need to take the TestAS!
What is required for recognition?
- You must take the TestAS (core test + subject module for your field of study)
- The average (arithmetic mean) of the test results must be at least 24 percent rank points
- In addition, you must submit your school certificates from abroad
- Some degree programs have higher requirements (please note the respective rules)
University and Programme Transfer
Students who began their studies at a different university and wish to transfer to our university, or internal students who wish to transfer to a different programme of study, may apply for admission to a higher semester in their chosen subject.
University transfer students and students switching programmes internally must apply through the online application portal.
- If you are a university transfer student, please create a new account in our application portal.
- If you want to transfer to a different programme of study, please login via the self-service function and apply through “Studienangebot”.
Admissions and placement are based on the credit points you have earned so far. After enrolment, single courses can be checked and approved by the examination board.
To be admitted to the 2nd semester, a minimum of 30 ECTS credits must be eligible for transfer. Only credits shown in your application count
Students applying for summer semester admission can only be placed in even semesters (2, 4, etc.), whereas winter semester admission candidates can only be placed in odd semesters (3, 5, etc.)!
Exceptions:
- Transfer students entering the programme in business management may be placed in all higher semesters regardless of whether they are admitted in the summer or winter semester.
- In the part-time programme in business management (“Verbundstudium”), transfer students applying for summer semester admission may only be placed in odd semesters and only in even semesters for winter semester admission.
Students applying for a university or internal transfer to Campus Velbert/Heiligenhaus should contact the Student Office at Velbert/Heiligenhaus directly.
