GH2GH at WACEE 2025: Powering Green Hydrogen in Sub-Sahara Africa
We were honored to present our project, GH2GH – Green Hydrogen for Decentralised Energy Systems in Sub-Saharan Africa, at the West African Clean Energy & Environment Conference and Exhibition (WACEE 2025) held in Accra. This premier platform brought together regional and international stakeholders committed to accelerating the clean energy transition across West Africa. The GH2GH project highlights how green hydrogen technologies can be effectively adapted, operated, and maintained within local contexts. At its core, the initiative focuses on technology transfer, hands-on vocational training, and the implementation of decentralized, sustainable energy systems key to fostering energy independence and resilience in Sub-Saharan Africa.
A Collaborative Effort Driving Innovation
Our progress would not be possible without the commitment and collaboration of our project partners: Green Power Brains, Ostermeier H2ydrogen Solutions GmbH, SFC Energy AG and Don Bosco Solar & Renewable Energy Centre (Tema, Ghana), Delivering vocational training, local operations, and system maintenance. This strong international-local partnership model ensures that knowledge, skills, and technologies are embedded sustainably within Ghana’s energy landscape.
Message from WACEE: Decarbonisation is Urgent
Discussions during the conference underscored a critical truth the energy transition must be inclusive, fast-tracked, and adapted to regional realities. As Sub-Saharan Africa seeks to expand access to clean and affordable energy, green hydrogen offers a transformative pathway for powering remote areas, boosting industrial innovation, and achieving long-term climate goals. The GH2GH project is not just about technology it is about building operational experience, empowering local institutions, and creating scalable solutions that align with Ghana’s development agenda and West Africa’s sustainable future.
The project "GH2GH – Green Hydrogen for Decentralized Energy Systems in Sub-Saharan Africa" (FKZ: 67EXI6503A-C) is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) as part of the "Export Initiative for Environmental Protection" (EXI). As the project management agency of the EXE, Zukunft – Umwelt – Gesellschaft (ZUG) gGmbH supports the Federal Environment Ministry in the performance of its tasks. As a project of the thematic focus "green hydrogen and fuel cell technologies for decentralised energy supply" within the Export Initiative for Environmental Protection, NOW GmbH accompanies the content of the GH2GH project in its function as a programme company.
