We are happy to share our latest research published in the journal Beton- und Stahlbetonbau!
The article was written by Thilo Schmidt, Denis Busch, Andrej Albert and Andreas Dridiger as well as Karsten Pfeffer (Unidome Deutschland GmbH). An Early-View-Version is now available online – the print version will be published in January 2026 in issue 121(1).
The article presents the restults of eight component tests on reincorced concrete slabs with novel types of alternating truncated cone shaped void formers. We investigated both slabs made of normal (NAC) and recycled aggregate concrete (RAC)
The key aspects were:
- investigation of the shear force capacity with regard to the volume displacement
- the recycling potential in an industrial processing process
Main results:
- shear force capacity of up to 65% compared to otherwise identical solid slabs with around 30% volume displacement
- successful assessment of recyclability in industrial processing
- recovered material meets the requirements for recycled aggregate type 1 in accordance with DIN 4226-101.
The study shows that geometrically optimised void formers enable substantial material savings while offering robust load-bearing behaviour and high recycling potential.
