See-pilot-consultation hours - Cooperative transfer project under the NRW state programme career Ppath FH professorship

Since 2017, the first nationwide See-pilot-consultation hours in a Social Pediatric Centre (SPC) has established a patient- and resource-oriented network of different disciplines in order to improve medical care and increase the chances of participation in (hitherto undiscovered) visual impairments (cf. Kerkmann, 2019; Kerkmann, Gawehn, Schneider, 2019).

As an inter-professional working group, the SLS is located in the Developmental Neuropsychological Outpatient Clinic (ENPA) at the Westphalian Children's Centre in Dortmund, as psychological developmental examinations and counselling for premature babies at pre-school age are offered here. Premature babies are considered a high-risk group for ocular and cerebral visual impairments (cf. Lueck, Dutton, 2015). In addition to premature babies, children with diagnoses such as profound developmental disorders, reading and arithmetic difficulties, brain damage and diseases and syndromes can also be affected by visual impairments. Already after birth and until late school age, the child's eyesight must be recorded and observed in the course of development. This is based on the S2k guideline on visual perception disorders, which highlights the variety of forms of ocular and cerebral visual impairment (cf. AWMF, 2017).
