German language skills for international applicants - Master's degree programmes

This is how well you must speak German to study at our university if you did not graduate from a school in Germany. Here is the list of accepted proof of German language skills:

English language proficiency equaling B2-level**

TOEFL iBT (min. score of 72), IELTS Academic English: 5 (face to face with oral component), First Certificate in English (FCE), TOEIC: 400 (listening) and 385 (reading) or graduated degree programme with English language of instruction.

Proof of German language proficiency through a language examination may be waived for those who:

  • have completed at least two years of vocational training in Germany;
  • have successfully completed one year of study in German-language degree programs;
  • hold German citizenship and study or work in Germany;
  • submit a certificate of exemption from a language examination issued by another university.
