Aftercare for gestational diabetes – GestDiNa_basic
In the research project GestDiNa_basic, which is supported by the Innovation Fund, the current situation of aftercare for women with GDM and the corresponding care structure in Germany is comprehensively investigated. Knowledge, problem awareness, concepts, attitudes, routines and experiences of different service providers involved as well as of affected patients are analysed. The aim is to create a basis for developing an appropriate, effective and patient-centred care model. The care situation of women during pregnancy and of women with a GDM diagnosis also after pregnancy is to be sustainably improved.
In order to investigate the current situation of aftercare for women with GDM and the care structure in Germany, quantitative and qualitative research approaches will be dovetailed (mixed-method approach). To this end, data from the GestDiab register (Germany-wide register on diabetes and pregnancy) as well as data from the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians of North Rhine-Westphalia and the participating statutory health insurance companies will be evaluated in various work packages. In addition, quantitative (postal surveys) and qualitative (interviews) surveys will be carried out among randomly selected service providers (diabetologists, gynaecologists, paediatricians, midwives) and affected patients and subsequently analysed. The results and findings are finally compiled in a systematic procedure.
The consortium comprises 15 partners: Under the leadership of the Institute for Health Services Research and Health Economics, the partners include the University Women's Hospital of the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, the Institute for Biometry and Epidemiology of the German Diabetes Centre Düsseldorf, health insurance representatives and the midwifery studies department of the University of Applied Sciences for Health.
