Study details

During your studies, you will learn how to use renewable energies to provide electricity and heat in a climate-friendly way and how to use them efficiently with new building energy and mobility concepts. You will also learn how to intelligently link the production and consumption of energy using innovative energy networks and storage systems. This will enable you to develop and implement solutions for the renewable energy supply of cities and companies yourself.
"Renewable Energy Systems" is a very practical degree programme: project tasks and simulation games, internships and excursionswill accompany you throughout your studies. The basic modules provide you with a broad basic knowledge of natural and engineering sciences, mathematics, Computer Science, but also Business Administration and the sustainable development of our society. The elective modules allow you to set your own focus, e.g. in the areas of geothermal energy, building energy technology or mobility systems or the networking and digitalisation of energy systems.

Your career opportunities

The career prospects after completing your Bachelor's degree in Renewable Energy Systems are excellent! Engineers for renewable energies (RE) are already in demand and many more jobs will be created in the course of the energy transition. There are interesting jobs with energy suppliers, engineering companies, manufacturers of renewable energy systems and environmental organisations and authorities: For example, as a development engineer, project developer or climate protection manager. In addition, with your Bachelor's degree, you will also be ideally prepared for a subsequent Master's programme with us. We are already planning the right Master's programme for you.

Studying at Campus Bochum

Modern, internationally orientated and surrounded by greenery - that's Bochum University of Applied Sciences. We have over 8,200 students studying at two different locations: the main campus in Bochum and the satellite campus in Heiligenhaus (CVH).
With our six faculties and more than 58 degree programmes, we attach great importance to encounters at eye level, supportive cooperation, personal support and strong practical relevance. There are numerous student working and research groups in which students from different degree programmes come together to learn. Topics such as Sustainable Bochum University, learning and working in projects (problem-based learning), Electric Mobility or climate change can be tackled here independently and closely supervised by lecturers. You can also obtain a doctoral degree here after completing a Master's degree.
The campus in Bochum is about 15 minutes by car or tram from the city centre, right next to the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB). All leisure activities for students there are also open to you: from university sports and the cultural café to the halls of residence. Bochum as a student city offers everything a student's heart desires: from art museum, theatre and concert hall to planetarium and mining museum to the party mile Bermudadreieck, city park and Kemnader See - take a look at Maps to see how green it is here!

What our students say

"To protect our planet, we urgently need to minimise our greenhouse gas emissions. As Climate Protection Manager at the Department of Building Construction and Real Estate of the City of Gelsenkirchen, one of my tasks is to assess the energy efficiency of my municipality's buildings and implement methods to reduce energy consumption. I also manage and plan short, medium and long-term measures to optimise the heat supply, among other things. Even my studies were extremely meaningful for me - and the job I am now doing is exactly what I want to do with my expertise."
