Incoming Students
We welcome international undergraduate (Bachelor) and postgraduate students (Master) to the Department of Business and Management.

A visiting Bachelor student can choose any available courses from the International Business and Management programme. However, most courses are taught in German and a CEFR B1 level in German is necessary to participate successfully . Students who have not achieved this level are also welcome; the list below shows the Bachelor seminars taught in English (all worth 5 ECTS; subject to changes at short notice).

Social Policy(English-friendly*)
*"English-friendly courses" are mainly taught in German but offer teaching material and assessment options in English. These courses are designed so that international exchange students with limited knowledge of German can participate—especially in project-based formats.
Visiting postgraduate students usually opt for the Master in "International Management". All available courses of the master programme can be chosen. Please note that visiting postgraduate students are also allowed to choose courses from the bachelor programme (see above)!
For students who have not achieved at least a B1 level in German we offer the following range of courses in English at postgraduate level (all worth 5 ECTS):

The “BO Academy" is an institute at Bochum University of Applied Sciences offering extracurricular courses. The following courses open both in Winter and Summer Semester and are well suited for international exchange students:
- German Language Course A1/A2, 6 ECTS
- German Language Course B1/B2, 6 ECTS (not available in summer semester 2026!)
- German Language Course B2/C1 - Conversation Skills for University Studies, 3 ECTS
- Intercultural Communication, 6 ECTS
Further courses may be available occasionally at the BO Academy.
Courses offered at other Departments at Bochum University of Applied Sciences that are available to international exchange students of the Department of Business & Management:
Winter semester
- Bioeconomy: Transition to a sustainable, bio-based economy, 5 ECTS (for Master's students only, limited places)
Summer semester
- Economics of Degrowth, 5 ECTS (for Bachelor's and Master's students)
Furthermore, we have a cooperation agreement in place with the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences in Gelsenkirchen. International exchange students at our institution can take Business-related courses in English there without any additional cost. Please contact us for more detailed information.
We have bilateral agreements in place with several of our partner universities which permit us to offer a double degree programme (please inquire at your home university for availability and requirements).
