Central Campus Bochum
Founded in Bochum in 1971, the university of applied sciences moved to its current location, now known as the ‘central campus’, in 1979, in the immediate vicinity of the Ruhr University Bochum.
The campus is located next to a nature reserve in the heart of the Ruhr area, Europe's most densely populated university landscape. It is easily accessible by bicycle, public transport and other means of transport.

Facilities
The central campus of Bochum University of Applied Sciences offers excellent, modern teaching and research facilities. In addition to nine lecture halls, numerous seminar rooms, specialist laboratories and two specialist libraries, there is a dining hall and the BO-Lounge cafeteria. These are run by AKAFÖ and provide students and staff with menus that change daily. They also offer snacks, light meals and a wide selection of beverages.
With the libraries, the White Room, the BlueBox and the BO-Lounge, there are a variety of student workrooms available.
The well-equipped laboratories, seminar rooms and lecture halls offer plenty of space for note-taking, research, teaching and learning.

University Sports Bochum offers a varied sports programme with 90 different sports and a well-equipped gym. Those who want to turn night into day will find numerous pubs, restaurants and clubs in the BermudaDreieck. Culture lovers will find plenty to enjoy in Bochum's many museums and cultural venues, including the Mining Museum and the Bochum Art Museum. The Bochum Theatre and numerous small theatres offer a variety of performances, and the world-famous musical ‘Starlight Express’ is also a highlight.

The central campus of Bochum University of Applied Sciences is located in the countryside, away from residential areas and noisy industrial parks. Thanks to its location, directly adjacent to a nature reserve, the central campus in Bochum is a habitat for both humans and animals.
Directly behind the dining hall is a campus garden, the BOase, a place for active and collaborative learning, teaching and research connected to the Laboratory for Sustainable Development.
The BOase is also a place of relaxation and encounter for students, staff, neighbours and visitors to Bochum University of Applied Sciences.

Bochum University of Applied Sciences integrates sustainability into all areas, including studies, teaching, research and campus operations. With the adoption of a comprehensive sustainability strategy in summer 2021, initiatives such as sustainability degree programmes and resource awareness are being actively promoted. Other focuses include internationalisation, digitalisation and diversity in order to make the university fit for the future.
