Welcome to the BO Buddy Program — Your first step in Bochum!
Are you a new international student at Hochschule Bochum? Whether you are here for a full degree or an exchange semester, the BO Buddy Program helps you settle in quickly, meet new people and feel at home from day one.
The BO Buddy Program is a semester‑long initiative that matches international students with local students from Hochschule Bochum. The goal is to make your start in Germany smoother and more enjoyable by building a supportive community and creating opportunities to connect with other students. The program connects you with local students (“Buddies”) who support and accompany you through your first semester. Together you learn about student life, explore Bochum and make friendships that last.
How it works
Register via the registration link by March 1, 2026. You will receive all the necessary information after the registration deadline.
Before the semester begins (early / mid March), we organize a digital matching session where you will be introduced to your local buddy group online.
This helps you:
- meet your buddies before arriving in Bochum
- ask questions about your arrival and first steps
- start connecting with other students early
During Welcome Week (8–11 April) you will have the chance to meet your buddy group in person on campus. This is an informal opportunity to get to know each other before classes start and to begin exploring Bochum together.
Once the semester begins, the Buddy Program continues with both group and individual activities:
- The International Office organizes meetups, trips and social events for all participants.
- There is a monthly Buddy Stammtisch where you can connect with other Buddies and international students.
- Your buddy group can also plan their own meetings and activities — everything is flexible and shaped by what works best for you and your group.
At the end of the semester, there is a closing meeting where everyone can reflect on their experiences, share stories and celebrate the end of the program together.
